ejavignon ::: Favorites None better. One of the most difficult arias in the history of opera performed with virtue. 07-08-30 19:35:03 _____________________________________________________
marioegorga ::: Favorites I am sorry you are right, the first Norma was Pasta actually Grisi the first Adalgisa went to sing Norma afterwards in the right key of F. The whole score nowdays is full of mistakes and lots of changes have been made since the Bellini's original. 07-08-30 18:16:55 _____________________________________________________
sevoflurane ::: Favorites Actually Bellini never wanted Grisi to sing Norma. He wrote the role for Giuditta Pasta, a contralto sfogato who was at ease in roles like Tancredi and Anna Bolena!!!! Having said that, the pitch has changed dramatically over the years so talking about the "original" key is probably meaningless. 07-08-30 08:19:33 _____________________________________________________
zovirotto ::: Favorites FOREVER CALLAS ... 07-08-27 20:10:02 _____________________________________________________
marioegorga ::: Favorites The aria was originally written in G for Giulia Grisi but it was latter brought back to F because she was not able to sing it. Joan was one of the few sopranos who was able to do it but later sung it in F, like Callas and Caballe as well as others.For those who criticize Dame Joan is ovious they know little about vocal music nor have they ever seen her on stage I saw her in more than 50 performances and she was just amazing ! 07-08-24 02:52:20 _____________________________________________________
mdancer01 ::: Favorites the best coloratura soprano true hurts and at her prime she sang the aria with a higher key so dont come and reply me that opera is not just high notes if you want drama go to a good play for me the voice is the key that comunicate emotions and Joan can make it perfectly 07-08-13 04:12:12 _____________________________________________________
OperaBR ::: Favorites Sutherland was 52 here while the famous performances by Callas and Caballé show them at their 30s. I think we should consider her age and circumstances. I think she's very effective in this aria, her golden and creamy voice conveys a lot of magic by itself. IMO her vocal expression is more moving than her visual characterization, but in her earlier video from 1964 (not in YouTube unfortunately) she has so much authority and magic. That is really great. This one is still amazing, though. 07-07-26 20:54:34 _____________________________________________________
Iareto ::: Favorites I loved it. She's brilliant! Even at this advanced age. I would've loved to see Callas TRY to sing like this at this stage of her career. 07-07-26 15:05:51 _____________________________________________________
mdancer01 ::: Favorites the studio recordong is so perfect and here too but with a mature voice more dark but with the samee emotion that only joan can make 07-06-30 04:47:56 _____________________________________________________
heckerebedebs ::: Favorites not as emotional as callas or as good as caballe, but was ok. the costumes, however, is far worst that i have ever seen... one word to describe the costumes? hideous. 07-06-25 12:47:54 _____________________________________________________ |
