db0956 ::: Favorites Probably the most under-rated guitarist the world has ever known. Phil deserves to be on a pedestal right above Hendrix, Beck, and Johnson. I regret not practicing more when I had the time. 07-07-11 18:07:38 _____________________________________________________
phantastes ::: Favorites Beck and Johnson I'll agree. But Hendrix has got to be the most over-rated musician of all-time except for maybe BB King. 07-07-11 19:38:01 _____________________________________________________
db0956 ::: Favorites From a technical standpoint, how right you are. I stand corrected. Jimi should just be in his own category, but he certainly left his own distinct mark in the guitar world, and players are still trying to figure out his tone and mastery of effects. My personal opinion is that Phil stands head and shoulders above anyone I have ever heard for all- around skill, especially considering that he is equally talented at accoustic guitar. 07-07-11 20:41:55 _____________________________________________________
db0956 ::: Favorites It is also worth noting that Phil was so good at such a young age when this video was made, and only continued to get better. I first saw Phil live in the early 70's and was an immediate fan. His speed and clean playing just knocked me out! It still does. 07-07-11 20:51:15 _____________________________________________________
phantastes ::: Favorites What a lot of people fail to realize is how good a rhythm player Hendrix was. He was the first guy I ever saw who used his thumb for chords that would have been impossible to play any other way. And he did indeed have great tone, and was an excellent melody writer as well. But as a lead player he was very young and underdeveloped when he died. No doubt he would have been great eventually though. He was already amazingly improved by the time "Band of Gypsies" came out compared to his 1st record. 07-07-11 20:56:04 _____________________________________________________
phantastes ::: Favorites I was awed by him back then as well. I can't say that he's improved over the years however. It's all been downhill since the early 80's, but it was a great ride for a while. he could do no wrong between 1970 and 1985. 07-07-11 20:58:03 _____________________________________________________
db0956 ::: Favorites My favorite Keaggy music is certainly the early stuff. I always felt that Phil's best playing was live. Maybe he has just settled into a groove, but when I hear March of the Clouds it just moves me to tears. 07-07-12 20:50:54 _____________________________________________________
farley90 ::: Favorites I cant agree with you more. 07-07-21 20:32:27 _____________________________________________________ |
